Md. Obaidur Rahman, Secretary of the Ministry of Industries, has assumed charge as the new Chairperson of the SME Foundation. He took office on January 5, 2026, and will serve in an additional capacity until a regular appointment is made. He is the 9th Chairperson of the foundation.

Food Adviser Ali Imam Majumder stated that food stock is currently at its highest level in five years. As of January 1, 2026, government food reserves stood at 2.027 million metric tons. Annual wheat demand is 7 million metric tons, while domestic production is only 1 million metric tons.
